Baby Mama Drama
Ok, not really too much drama, but anyway... we are just getting ready to go to Utah today! Hooray! First we are stopping off in Las Vegas for a day or so to visit the Greenes and Ashley Hawkins (shout out to the family- woo hoo!).
We will be heading off to Utah shortly after. I tried to demand that a few of my closest pals drop whatever they are doing (work, grad school, family responsibilities...etc.) and visit me on the double, but sadly not all of them will be able to - so this goes out to you - you know who you are. I will be seeing some other dear friends and I couldn't be more delighted!
Now for the drama (nothing big, I assure you). Last week my family took us out for a fun dinner to celebrate the fact that smart old Thomas graduated with a masters degree in social work from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. So, I got Ambrose ready in a fine little golfer-esque outfit (shirt from Ashley and Brittany, pants from Echo, shoes from Natalie)and we bathed him before- got him smelling great...etc. To top it off I decided to also trim up his creaturous nails.
As many may already know, I usually reserve this task for his father or grandmother Linda. I am a little afraid to cut his nails (they're so small and so close to his skin!). Well, I was starting to get pretty confident by the ninth nail- no injury, no problem - when all of a sudden his calm, happy grin turned into the biggest frown ever and blood started to gush a little. I have never felt so horrible in all my life. I washed it off in the bathroom and applied pressure, but the blood kept coming... he wasn't even crying after like 5 seconds until I let go of his finger and some air got to the little wound. He let out a sad, painful cry and I couldn't handle it. I sobbed. Like a baby. I've never felt so horrible. My mom had to help- she put a little band-aid on him and soothed us both (well, laughed at me really, and I would have too if I were her). Am I a teenage mom or what? In the end, we both recovered and he got some extra attention, cuddles, and feedings out of it. To top the night off we added curry to the list of things that I can no longer eat because it irritates his stomach... that should have been a no brainer... did I mention I'm new at this? My poor baby. He's so happy when I get things right. Like right now, as I type this I can hear him singing along to his baby aquarium (lights, music, bubbles, swimming fish- it's quite a show).

I am there for you. I have never had a problem with my other two. They never had claws like Rainey, and I never feared. Last month I did the very same thing, I made him bleed. My heart broke and I felt so guilty. Jake of course laughed and made fun of me but I felt seriously guilty for causing my baby pain.
Liza was very touchy with what I ate. I am glad I learned a trick or two to help with those rough nights.
We are so excited to see you in a few days.
Steph! I can SO RELATE... don't tell a soul but Eliza fell off of the bed for the first time in her young life this week and has a bruise on her forehead. I cried harder than she did. It was my fault that I let her get too close. I get sick to my stomach as I replay that memory in my mind. Ugh! Andrew was the official "nail clipper" in our family for the first few months... I worked up the courage to do it when she was 11 months or so!! Ha ha ha. Congrats to Thomas for graduating!
I am very excited to see you all today! My poor little baby and his teenage mom.
i love the golfer outfit. it is quite possibly the gretest thing that i have ever seen.
in other news, i also think that lifetime should make a documentary of your challenges as a young mother. i know that i would watch it.
i love the pants! what a cutie!!
Becca I agree with you it would be a great "true life" movie.
so cute! I am so sad I missed you, but will see you in December for sure. My parents actually suggested that I go out and stay with you this fall for a week or so and play and take care of the babe with you! what a great idea, huh? Hopefully John Hawley will fund it - I mean, he did suggest it, right? Anyway...Ambrose is adorable and I cannot wait to meet his sweet little face! LOVE YOU!
Steph, you seriously are the funniest "teenage mom" I know! I bet when you started crying harder than Ambrose, he was like "I wonder what's wrong with Mom?"
i get to meet him today. i am ecstatic.
