dr. sassy-pants and other happenings

does everyone go through a dr. laura phase? i can't believe my ears! why, oh why do people call into that show? my pal matti recently acquainted me with a website where you can listen to the most sassy woman on talk radio. she is ruthless. sometimes i agree with her and i feel oddly proud of myself, like, "yeah, tell 'em dr. laura" and other times i think, "wow... that's all. just wow." i generally listen to her program for a while in the morning as i am trying to get billing done, or eat breakfast, or play with the boy...etc. it's just a phase, i don't think i can handle feeling so awkward for so many people in such a short amount of time for much longer. it'll start to age my face or do damage to my internal organs or something.

also, ambrose had his 6 months appt. on wednesday. current stats: 21 lbs. (the weight gain is finally slowing down! when i said to the doctor, "he only gained 2 lbs. in the last two months, is that ok?" he said with an incredulous tone and expression, "thank goodness he only gained 2 lbs.!!!" so i guess it's a very good thing.) 28 inches long and an 18 inch head. he's still a beast, but a beast whose growth rate is finally taking a chill pill. he got shots and is still whining at me about it and refusing to let me put him down or do anything for that matter. i am typing this as he sleeps.

and for those who have been on the edge of their seats wondering about wednesdays festivities at craft night or bridge club, or whatever we are deciding to call it- first of all- your glutes must be amazing from all of that tense sitting- and second of all- it went great! i dont think anyone actually finished a craft because there were a lot of babies needing their mothers, and smoothie making in anna's coveted (by me) Vitamixer, and story/drama telling... but it was fun! and i want to do it again and again.

projects in no particular order:

me: fiddled with broken sewing machine, traced a headband that i will cut out and sew next time
echo: traced and cut out headbands
kristen: stitched some stitches on her blanket for ava girl
anna: altered some vintage clothing for her business and taught me how to work the coveted (by me) Vitamixer
bille: mended and altered her clothes
matti: made these amazing baby girl headbands for eden and perhaps a business venture

oh how i wish i had photos of all this, but alas, a certain photographer in the family carries the camera with him wherever he goes these days. so i think i will talk him into getting a nikon D200 (shouldn't be hard to do) for him and then talk him into giving me the D40. reader note: i'm the amateur, he's the pro. i get a camera to use whenever and wherever- so does he... we all win.

I am waiting to see these headbands. they have me intrigued! I am glad your craft night was a success in the matter of having fun. I love our ward craft nights each month. I need some new ideas tho-feed me some.

I totally had a Dr. Laura phase. I sometimes cheer her own, other times I yell at the radio asking her to be nice.

Haha! After a whole day of watching america's next top model (what all saty at home mom's watch), reading about our little craft night really made me laugh and perk up. I had so much fun! Thank you for inviting us. I only hope Ava will let me get in more than 5 stitches next time...

Oh man Kristen, I should have just known that Ambrose would continue to be clingy from his shots and not canceled our play date today... I got like 30 minutes of work done and held him the rest of the day. We could have passed the time together... (sigh).

I agree with what you said about Dr. Laura. I use to listen to her, but then gave it up when I realized I always felt the need to teach others lessons.

Dr. Laura is just stating facts to those people so you are right...why do they call in? Have they ever listened to her before? Who in their right mind would turn to her for advice or validation?!

I am glad Ambrose is not gaining as much weight (mostly for the sake of you people who have to carry him around).

i know, that's the funny part- they always say stuff like, "Im such a fan! thanks for taking my call. i have listened to you for 10 years...etc." and then proceed to tell her something that is obviously something she will think is dumb...etc. occasionally dr. laura will agree with someone and think they're great and so every fan calling in hopes that their call will be the magic one and their discipleship will be further validated... and then she makes them feel foolish and the conversation ends with them saying after a long awkward and shameful pause, "uh... you're right... yeah. ok." and then dr. laura laughs and takes the next caller.

this could be a whole other blog- but what i would like to see or hear is what happens after people get cut off. undoubtedly many sob their eyes out and some probably call a friend and freak out and perhaps some actually take the advice, leave their live in boyfriend and fly right. who knows. pure entertainment nevertheless.
