movin on and movin out

We are packing up to go back to Hawaii tomorrow. We have done so much in the last five weeks, seen so many people, eaten so much food, etc. that we are finally ready to get back into a routine. I am actually really sad to leave though. It has been so fun to just kick back and be a mom and not worry about my job or anything else that people worry about in regular life. I really have enjoyed my time here.

Today we took the boy out in the backyard for a final swim and he loved it this time. The water is a lot warmer and instead of awkwardly dunking him in, I got in there and we (me and thomas) both took turns with him in the water. He seemed to really enjoy it. We took a little video of it to document the cuteness.

I am also in the middle of a great book. It is a church book and I really like it. That may seem like a strange sentence, but for some reason, for most of my life I have avoided church books because I don't agree with people cashing in on church culture or ideas. Also, for the most part it drives me crazy when people like bare their testimony of The Work and the Glory or Children of the Promise (Children of the Corn? haha mom) BUT! this one came highly recomended by my father and aunt and I just dove right into it. It is "No One Can Take Your Place" by Sheri Dew.
I guess I'll just go against my own pet peeve and say that this book really helped me. I'm not done with it yet, but when I read it I feel like I never want to put it down and like I am reading the scriptures or something. It is like a big pep talk, but is not preachy or annoying. I feel like buying a bunch of copies and handing them out. I'm serious. So, anyway, it's good. It's simple, and familiar, and frankly exactly what I need in my life right now. That's all. Maybe I should be more accepting of church books since I liked this one so much. In fact, Sheri Dew talks about Sister Hinckley's book "Glimpses..." and I was so interested in her story that I think I am going to borrow it from my mom and read that one sometime as well. There's hope for me yet. :)

Well, better finish packing and then it's off to my nephew's third birthday party!

I think that non-fiction church books are where it's at.

I know what you mean about such church books. For the most part, I am a literary snob. I prefer "real literature," usually meaning the author has to be very dead. For example, I never got on the Harry Potter bandwagon because it was too popular and I didn't want to join the crowd. That is the rebel in me, I guess. Although, I admit that I read this very Sheri Dew book and I enjoyed it too. It meant a lot to me at the time I read it.
