Thomas' cute old cat Hugo died early this morning. When I met Hugo in February of 2004- Thomas warned me that poor Hugo (who was two years younger than me) could die any day and told me that every time he takes a trip to the mainland he says goodbye to Hugo since he is afraid Hugo will die before the trip is over. So, for the last three years of marriage we did just that before each major mainland excursion. Every time we return I am pleasantly surprised to see Hugo in his usual spot by the carport meowing his sometimes sad and tired but nevertheless familiar greeting. I would comb him occasionally and even chased away neighborhood cats who bullied the poor old guy. Hugo was a constant and now his little spot by the carport is empty. I was surprised that I cried when I heard he had passed on- he's just a cat for crying out loud! :) But I guess I was sad for Thomas who has had Hugo around for as long as he can remember and I enjoyed him too. We will miss him, but feel happy that he is no longer in pain and that we got to have him in our lives for so long. As Linda put it on our family website: Hugo caught the bus... :)

I was so sad when I read your post. Hugo was such a good old cat. I will miss seeing him when I come and visit.
What a cute cat! Looks kind of like Penny. Don't worry- I cried when Daisy was put to sleep and I made Maddie cry too. It was sad...
Sorry about Hugo. I know his life was well documented by Thomas' photos so that is nice. Penny's flight is booked and her bags are packed. I'll let you know when you should meet her flight!
awesome!
We will all miss Hugo. May he rest. His girl Penny is still hanging in here.
