Caution! Warning!

Watching Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs with your three-year-old may seem like a good idea at the time. You both love the 1978 classic book and it's on Netflix Instant Watch.

It's even a pretty cute movie overall.... but, there is a scene where the little boy main character, who is in love with all things science and inventing, gets a handmade scientist coat from his mother as a surprise.... your child will take a cue from said movie, because after all, you're his mom and you sew, and assume this is a rite of passage for all young, imaginative, science-minded males...

...and so you'll spend a large chunk of your Tuesday trying to create your own version of the scientist coat.

Even if you really have no idea how to make a tiny scientist coat. At all.

I've already re-done the sleeves because they were too short the first time.

Ok, enough stalling, back to work. I've got a tiny mad scientist to outfit here.

At least he didn't want the shoes that never come off! And you truly are amazing. And I listen to this song every morning on my way to work. Seriously. Every day. It's my "get pumped up for this work business when you really just want to be at home" song.

oh yikes, that sounds hard. commissions make me so nervous and i always mess them up. i've already banned nate from asking for anything because i can't get it good enough. the child, however, still has some possibilities. like you said, not picky. (that is not to suggest that your scientist coat will be less than awesome. i have full faith.)

See, you should be like me (don't do anything extra or fancy such as sewing) and your kids would never even dream of asking you to sew such a thing. Sew???? What is that? Oh wait, that is what dad does when he is creating out of this world Halloween costumes right? Yeah, but not mom, that would be silly!!! See, be like me.... No really, that is so great you are doing that. You will NEVER regret it!

This is funny because in Argentina, a lot of the pre- and elementary school uniforms consist of a white lab coat to wear over the clothes. It is totally adorable to see what looks like lines of miniature lab techs walking behind their teacher, or a gaggle of mad scientists playing on the school playground. Anyway, I know you are the president of a fancy sewing society and all, but if I were still there I would just mail you one! At any rate, know that somewhere in the world they make little white lab coats for kinders.

kaiya requests stuff ALL the time and usually I put it off until she forgets about it hahaha (unless it's something easy to make of course). she really wants me to make her a Bullseye from toy story, however I know that she will want it to look exactly like Bullseye, and I know that I can't make it exactly like bullseye....so i haven't done it. I told her we could buy one someday...

great job and taking his requests seriously and not brushing it off like me! :) Show us when your done, can't wait to see it!
