i might already be embarrassing him.

today ambrose and i wandered over to the byu-hawaii faculty townhouse playground for a little variety. as we came through the gates by the temple and started to cross the big, lush field that leads to the playground, ambrose was beaming: at least 25-30 professor's kids of all ages were running wild! he LOVES being around other kids, but especially loves trying to hang with OLDER kids.

the kids were all playing this highly complicated, and chaotically organized game. as i came into view with my eager toddler they suddenly became a little self-conscious of their play, which made me kind of sad because i realized just how un-cool i am just by virtue of birthing a child and therefore being a "mom." oh well. :)

they got over my presence pretty quickly though, resumed their play, and ambrose was completely delighted to follow everyone around and pretend to take part.

he was especially taken with these charming little hooligans (look how eagerly he smiles in the picture, like, "yeah, these are my friends! can you believe it??"): we've played with them once before this week. one is obviously spiderman and the other is an astronaut. i asked him if he was sure he could breathe with that dangerous contraption on his head and he just looked at me like i was an idiot... sigh... ambrose is gonna start ditching me soon if i cant just hang out and be cool with these guys. :)

Ohh... first commenter...yeah baby! This post is funny- yeah it makes me smile and chuckle. I enjoy imagining Ambrose's excitement- and the astronaut- cracks me up! love it! Glad you got a picture...

just because I'm not blogging myself doesn't mean I can't be a cool commentor....

oh i love this!! i can't imagine anything cooler/or more amazing than being a mom (but maybe that's because i take kids for only a few hours at a time and then get to go home by my lonesome)! I just wanted to tell you that I so love reading your blog. It's delightful and truly courageous. And PS: now that I'm getting to be an okay cook I'm out to rip into that recipe book of yours and I can't wait!

hahaha!!! totally un-cool moms, that's us. and what is up with this wet, cloudiness? go away, come out sun! me and malik stopped by the TVA one today for like 5 seconds and he was ready to go home. the slide was wet. and there were puddles under the swings. i like that bigger playground by the townhouses. me and the kids used to frequent that one a lot when my sister (that's gonna have a baby any day now) used to live here. back when i was loner mom. next time, you gotta dress ambrose up to play there!

ha! i totally know how you feel- when i dropped ivy off at nursery the other day she stuck her hand in the air (talk to the hand style) nd said "go mom, bye" and walked away.

Too funny! Tayson has always loved trying to play with the older kids too. Camden not so much, but Tayson just thinks they are the coolest in the whole world.

Oh Ambrose looks so old in that picture. Don't worry you have embarrassing me for years and I still love you.

I'm pretty sure the main reason we had a kid was to embarrass him. We're already planning what we're gonna do to make him squirm when he invites his friends over. Embarrass on little mama. It's what they're for.

LOLOLOLol oh my gosh, those kids are hilarious! And Ambrose is SO BIG! He looks like he fits right in with those kids, I can't believe how much he's grown. I totally see you in his smile, by the way!

I love that picture. Ambrose looks so pleased to be hanging out with the big kids. Hilarious. My child could care less about playing with the big kids. I'm afraid he's going to be a bit of a loner. But then I am, too, and I turned out kind of okay, so maybe that's just fine.
