i love to call my mom and tell her what i am sewing, what i want to sew, and get tips and ideas from her. she gets all excited for me and always makes me feel more skilled than i really am. we chat like we have both been sewing for over 30 years- it's fun. anyway, we didn't always have this hobby in common and more and more i am finding we have common interests or likes. this could be scary, but my mom is pretty hip. :)
the other day on the phone i had her measure my niece so i could make her an apron because she is turning seven soon, is my parents only grand-daughter, and likes to clean and she made detailed "to-do" lists at the age of four. she NEEDS a vintage inspired apron. she just does.
as my mom gave me the measurements (my sisters kids were playing at her house at the time) she said, "you know, you always liked your dad better but you are turning out to be just like me!!!! hahahahahahaha!" (that laughing part was half cackle, i swear!)
sassy.
i'm never sassy. so i'm not just like her.
hahahahahahaha! (i hope you read that in your head with half a cackle.)
anyway, here is the apron i made for the awesome lady who used to live in my ward that gave me ALL that sewing stuff. i made it as a thank you and wanted to make sure it was in a cool aloha print (which can be tricky since most aloha print is tick-tacky) so she could remember hawaii. the smaller one is obviously for my lovely niece.
and here's some of the finishing that i wouldn't have been able to include were it not for my inherited collection!

so cute. and you're too right about that alhoa print. it's adorable.
I gave up sewing when I was teenager but now it seems pretty cool maybe I will pick it up someday. Like your apron tho.
i am not a fan of aloha, at all. but i like these!
that comment about liking your dad and turning in to your mom is right on for me too. it's inevitable, we all turn out like our moms in one way or another, glad you got her sewing skills!
girl, you've got sass! It's the good kind. I've seen it.
So cute...you sassy thing you. ;-)
Those are so cute! Very talented!
love that print. Good job.
I think when you go into fabric store in Hawaii (like fabric mart) there is so much Aloha print that its all overwhelming. But I find that if you pick up a decent one and come home with it, it doesn't look that bad at all.
Bravo! Next stop: Project Runway??? Methinks so.
