i started working on this list with amby this week and the first activity on the list was tie dyed clothing and luckily my in-laws have some dye and luckily i had a bunch of onesies lying around and a shirt for amby and some socks for amby's friend who has a birthday coming up and luckily i have a friend named robin (fellow tutor from the reading/writing center days. what up.) who knows about these sorts of things.
we got to work. the boy had just woken up from a nap... on the wrong side of the bed might i add, but we persevered. i knew he was gonna love it. i put him in the only outfit i didnt mind him ruining... his diaper... and gave him some gloves:
we tied (and it was so fun because there are all different patterns you can experiment with!)
and then we dyed and ambrose snapped out of the cranky mood as i expected and started chanting: "make a mess! make a mess!" in a very pleased tone as if he was drunk on his own disbelief. see ambrose, if you ever read this in the future... i was cool.
check out robin. tie dying with a babe in a sling. earth mama! i love it.
anyway- then we let them sit on the porch for 24hrs:
did the whole rinsing ritual and hung them up to dry:
i'm so pleased with how they turned out except for i guess we forgot a little step in the beginning so the colors faded somewhat when i washed them in the washing machine... but all-in-all it turned out pretty great and we had so much fun! ambrose has a new shirt, asher has a new onesie or two, amby's friend has some groovy socks, and we have baby gifts for a few of my loved ones who are expecting. hooray! thanks for teaching us all the different techniques robin!
next activity with the ambo: homemade bubbles this weekend.
